1) first get an x-ray done in the UK.
2) Search for more than one dental clinic and send them your x-ray; this way you will save time and get accurate quotes.
3) And do your research.

Now a little about me: I sent my x-ray to three different dental clinics in Turkey, but I was astonished to see that all three clinics sent me three different dental implant procedures and prices, so that was a little off-putting for me. After all, I sent an x-ray, so surely the procedure should be the same or similar? I have to say that put me off wanting dental implants. The UK seemed the safest bet, but the price of treatment for me was over £25,000. A few weeks later, I came across an ad on Facebook. Now I normally ignore such ads, but I sent my x-ray along with my details, and a guy called Tim called me (who is English). He asked me a few questions and organized a phone interview for me with Dr. Rasmus Sperber (he is German but speaks very good English). and he advised me on the best procedure for me, which would involve three visits (not two like Turkey offers), and his price was still a little cheaper than Turkey. So over many chats, asking all sorts of questions, I felt comfortable, and he came across as genuine. Also, you don’t pay any money upfront; you pay a day or two after your procedure, “and not the full amount; I pay so much per visit”. So now I have just completed my first visit, which was based on 4 days:

day 1 “flight”,
day 2 “operation”,
day 3 “a check-up”, and on day 4 I fly home.

This Dental clinic is very professional and makes you feel relaxed in a friendly atmosphere. And most important! With my first treatment completed, I have no pain at all!

So I would like to thank Tim “the coordinator”, Johanas “he collects you from the airport, and Dr, Sperber “the implantologist” and other staff who were involved! they were all fantastic. I now actually look forward to my second visit for further treatment.

P.S my price included the collection to and from the hotel, the hotel with breakfast, and all the treatment needed for my implants and the medication.

All the team made the trip go according to plan .I am looking forward to getting my new bridge. I was quoted 18k in the UK to sort my upper teeth out. Paid a lot less here at the clinic with no implants required.

My first visit to Smile Health in Leipzig was excellent, and I received all the care and attention I expected from the team. I flew into Berlin and was met by the affable Tim, who is the Patient Liaison with whom I had arranged the visit. Driving is not his usual task, but he was happy to fill in, even on a Sunday, as the usual driver was on leave. We had a good chat as I was transported to the comfortable and adequate hotel in Leipzig, fully informed about the schedule for the next day. I spent the afternoon strolling about the town, and shopping for supplies, however being a Sunday, most of the shops were closed.
The following morning I was picked up, on time as agreed, and transported to the dental clinic where I met Dr. Aleks in person. We had previously had a chat on the phone about my personal treatment plan, and what options I had the following inspection of the panoramic x-ray I had provided from the U.K. He reiterated the treatment I would receive on this day, putting me at ease, and provided a sedative, some painkillers, and antibiotics, with a dosage schedule and written information about the medicines. There were no other disclaimers or forms to fill in, which surprised me a little, as I am used to completing various forms for each visit to my U.K. dentist, even just for a check-up!

We proceeded to the well-equipped and professional surgery, where calming underwater scenes were displayed to help me relax, for what would be a few hours in the chair. Fully anaesthetised and relaxed, Dr. Aleks set about removing the troublesome wisdom tooth. I felt no pain or discomfort throughout, and I was relieved to see that tooth in front of me, as it had been giving me pain for much of the previous month. Apparently, it had three roots, which is quite unusual, two of which were curved inwards, so it presented quite a challenge to remove. However, Dr. Aleks talked to me throughout the procedure and reassured me at each step he took.

Next was the fitting of implants, 6 in total, three of which would secure a new zirconium crown bridge to quite a large gap in my lower jaw. Again, Dr. Aleks skilfully and quickly performed the necessary procedures, talking to me throughout and checking if I was feeling any pain at all, which I wasn’t. Of course, opening your mouth for any period of time at the dentist is not the most comfortable experience, but I was given every opportunity to take a break when I felt my jaw tiring or aching. Once the implants were in, it was time to inspect the work and stitch the gums up, which again was performed relatively painlessly. I felt a few twinges on the last implant, as the anaesthetic was wearing off, so more of that magic liquid was applied, leaving me quite numb and oblivious to any more pain or sensation.

Throughout the 2–3 hours of treatment, Dr. Aleks was ably assisted by his assistant who, after receiving my stitches, used cutting edge technology to scan my jawline and teeth digitally, recreating a 3D model of my gums and teeth. This was to be able to produce the zirconium crowns to be fitted at my next appointment, in a few months time, while the implants fuse to the bone in my jaw. Once done, Dr. Sperber entered the room, I had a quick chat with him, and he inspected Dr. Alek’s handiwork and gave me a reassuring thumbs up.

I was returned to the hotel for that afternoon and evening, I took more painkillers as the anaesthetic wore off, and I started to feel some unavoidable discomfort, however, nothing that was not expected and manageable. The following morning I was picked up again and returned to the surgery for a quick check, before setting off to Berlin again, with Tim, for my return flight.

All in all, I am very happy to have chosen Smile Health for my treatment. Everything went according to the plan, as was explained to me while I was still in the U.K. The well-equipped surgery, dental staff, Tim, Dr. Aleks and Dr. Sperber have my full confidence, and I look forward to my next and hopefully, my final visit, to fit the zirconium crowns to the implants, and enjoy a full set of adult teeth once more. Based on this first visit, I would not hesitate to recommend Smile Health for dental implant and other dental treatment. And the cost is about a third of that quoted to me, for exactly the same treatment and implant quality, by my private dental surgery in the U.K. It really makes perfect sense for me to trust in Smile Health for this treatment.
